ECP Initiates Proceedings Against PTI MPA Dr Amjad Ali

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has initiated proceedings against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Member of the Provincial Assembly from Swat, Dr Amjad Ali. The Election Commission Islamabad has issued a notice directing him to appear in person on February 3, 2026. According to sources, the summons relates to allegations of assets beyond known sources of income. The ECP has instructed Dr Amjad Ali to submit a detailed explanation of his financial statements, declared assets, and sources of income.

Asset Scrutiny and Possible Legal Action

Election Commission officials stated that scrutiny of assets of elected representatives nationwide is being accelerated to strengthen transparency and accountability. As part of this process, Dr Amjad Ali’s asset record is currently under review. Sources added that if the explanation is found unsatisfactory, the ECP may expand legal proceedings, which could include disqualification and other actions.

So far, neither Dr Amjad Ali nor PTI has issued an official statement, though political circles are closely watching the development.
