BLA Terror Attack in Nushki Kills Religious Scholar and Family

Brutal Attack on a Civilian Family

On the night of January 31, 2026, a horrifying act of terrorism unfolded in Nushki district, Balochistan. Militants of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), widely described as an Indian-backed proxy group, stormed the home of Mufti Imshad Ali, a religious scholar, schoolteacher, and local preacher. Fully aware that women and children were present, the attackers carried out what security sources describe as a deliberate targeted killing rather than any form of armed confrontation.

Mufti Imshad Ali was shot dead after stepping outside his home. The assailants then murdered his wife and targeted their children inside the house. Three children Aniqa (3), Umair (16), and Talha (14) were killed in the attack. One daughter survived with serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment in Quetta. The family had no political affiliation, and Mufti Imshad Ali was known locally for his gentle demeanor and dedication to teaching and community service.

A Crime Meant to Spread Fear

One child survived by hiding silently inside a briefcase for nearly two days without food or water, trapped in a house filled with death. When rescued, the child was found alive but deeply traumatized, reportedly unable to speak. The news of the massacre reached the family’s relatives in Karak district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on February 1 through a phone call from Nushki.

Analysts say the attack reflects a broader pattern of violence in which civilians, including religious figures and families, are deliberately targeted to spread fear and destabilize society. Such incidents often escape sustained national attention, yet each represents a destroyed household and a lasting psychological scar. The Nushki tragedy stands as a stark reminder that terrorism in Balochistan is aimed not at resistance, but at terrorizing innocent people and eroding social cohesion.
