NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is set to address a high level briefing of the United Nations Security Council in New York on the evolving Palestine situation. The meeting will be presided over by the United Kingdom in its capacity as Council President. Deliberations will focus on developments in Gaza and the West Bank and on the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2803.

Focus on Gaza and West Bank developments

The session takes place amid renewed international concern over humanitarian conditions in Gaza and rising tensions in the West Bank. Member states are expected to review ceasefire efforts civilian protection mechanisms and the delivery of humanitarian assistance in line with Resolution 2803. Diplomatic sources indicate that discussions will also address accountability and adherence to international humanitarian law.

Reaffirmation of Pakistan’s position

Pakistan is expected to reiterate its principled support for the Palestinian right to self determination and a viable two state solution based on pre 1967 borders with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital. The foreign minister will underscore the urgency of a permanent ceasefire expanded humanitarian relief and early reconstruction. Islamabad maintains that durable peace must be anchored in international law relevant UN resolutions and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
