New York’s First Muslim Mayor Zohran Mamdani Takes Oath on the Holy Quran

New York City’s first Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani, formally assumed office on Tuesday after taking his oath on the Holy Quran at City Hall.

Oath-Taking Ceremony at City Hall

According to international media, the oath-taking ceremony took place at New York City Hall. New York Attorney General Letitia James administered the oath. Mayor Mamdani chose to take his oath of office on the Holy Quran.

His wife was also present at the ceremony, along with city officials and guests.

Historic Electoral Victory

Zohran Mamdani belongs to the Democratic Party. He won the mayoral election held on November 4, 2025, securing 50.78 percent of the vote.

With this victory, Mamdani became the 112th mayor of New York City, marking a historic milestone for the city’s diverse population.
