Pakistan on Friday accorded a warm and ceremonial welcome to United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as he arrived in Islamabad on an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir received the UAE president at Nur Khan Airbase. Senior ministers and top officials were also present.
As President Al Nahyan’s aircraft entered Pakistani airspace, Pakistan Air Force jets escorted it in a gesture of respect. Authorities played the national anthems of both countries and fired a 21-gun salute. A guard of honour from the Pakistan Armed Forces saluted the visiting leader.
Children dressed in traditional attire lined the route. They waved Pakistani and UAE flags, adding colour to the reception. Military and cultural bands performed during the ceremony.
Focus on Trade, Investment, and Regional Stability
President Al Nahyan arrived with a high-level delegation that includes Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, and UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Salem Mohammed Al Zaabi. Several federal ministers and senior officials are also part of the delegation.
According to the Foreign Office, this marks President Al Nahyan’s first official visit to Pakistan since assuming office. He had earlier visited the country privately in January this year.
During the visit, President Al Nahyan will hold talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Both leaders will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. The Foreign Office said the visit aims to deepen longstanding brotherly relations, with a focus on trade, investment, and regional stability.
In view of the visit, authorities declared a public holiday in Islamabad. The Islamabad High Court, district courts, Senate Secretariat, and National Assembly Secretariat remained closed. However, banks and essential services, including CDA, police, IESCO, and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines, continued operations.
