Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the resumption of direct flights between Islamabad and London Heathrow, ending a six-year suspension.
The airline will operate four weekly flights starting March 29, 2026. Flights will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.
Ban Lifted After Safety Clearances
PIA suspended the route in 2020 following a deadly crash and revelations of fake pilot licenses. The crisis led to flight bans by the European Union and the United Kingdom.
After a series of international safety audits, the EU lifted its ban in November 2024, followed by the UK in July 2025, clearing the way for PIA’s return to key international routes.
Post-Privatization Push
The announcement comes shortly after PIA’s privatization. The airline’s new owners, including Arif Habib’s consortium, have pledged to expand operations, improve services, and create jobs while retaining the PIA brand.
PIA officials say the Islamabad–London route marks a major step in rebuilding trust and restoring the airline’s global presence.
