PM Shehbaz Urges Immediate End to Violations
At the inaugural session of the US-led Board of Peace in Washington, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for an immediate end to ceasefire violations in Gaza, stressing that lasting peace depends on full respect for the truce. He said the Palestinian people have endured prolonged occupation and severe hardship, and emphasized that protecting civilian lives and advancing reconstruction must be the top priority. Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, he supported the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions, adding that justice and self-determination are essential for durable peace.
Trump Announces Funding for Reconstruction
President Donald Trump praised Pakistan’s leadership and claimed credit for easing tensions between Pakistan and India in May 2025. He announced that the United States would contribute $10 billion to the Board of Peace, while other countries pledged billions more for Gaza’s rebuilding efforts. The meeting also discussed plans for an International Stabilization Force to support post-ceasefire recovery. Pakistani officials said the country remains committed to diplomatic engagement and global peace initiatives.
