Leadership and Unity Under Scrutiny as PTI Lawmaker Steps Aside
Internal divisions within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have become increasingly visible following the public protest by National Assembly member Junaid Akbar, who announced his withdrawal from a parliamentary committee over grievances against his own party colleagues.
According to voice messages circulated in a PTI lawmakers’ WhatsApp group, Junaid Akbar accused party members of systematically denying him opportunities to speak from parliamentary benches. He described the situation as a deliberate obstruction and a reflection of declining internal respect and coordination within the party.
In his remarks, Akbar stated that he could not continue to be part of a forum where his voice was neither acknowledged nor facilitated in an effective manner. Political observers view his decision as a manifestation of broader unease within PTI ranks, particularly at a time when the party is already navigating intense political pressure and institutional constraints.
Analysts caution that public dissent by a senior parliamentarian raises serious questions about PTI’s internal discipline, decision-making mechanisms, and leadership coherence. If such grievances are not addressed through timely and inclusive internal dialogue, experts warn, the party risks erosion of its parliamentary effectiveness and further damage to its political credibility.
