Execution Amid Rising Regional Tensions
Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad. State media identified the man as Ali Ardesteni. Iran’s state news agency IRNA said he confessed to sharing sensitive information with Mossad and receiving cryptocurrency payments. Authorities claimed he filmed and photographed sensitive locations across the country.
Espionage Cases Surge After Iran-Israel Conflict
IRNA said Ardesteni was recruited online and promised one million dollars and a British visa. Iran said the case followed legal procedures. Human rights groups, however, questioned the fairness of the trial and said confessions are often coerced. Since last year’s 12-day Iran-Israel war, Iran has executed 12 people on espionage-related charges. Tensions remain high as Israel calls for regime change and the United States warns of possible military action.
