Appearing on Red Line on Samaa TV with Talat Hussain on 16 Feb 2026 Rina Shah referenced the latest UN Security Council sanctions monitoring findings to underline Pakistan’s longstanding concerns regarding militant safe havens in Afghanistan. She noted that recent assessments describe the Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan as one of the largest militant groups operating from Afghan territory with access to training and facilitation. According to her these conclusions are based on multilateral inputs and reflect growing international recognition of the threat landscape.
Evolving militant linkages
Shah pointed to the 37th UN Monitoring Team Report which documents patterns of cooperation among regional militant entities. She said the findings challenge claims that there is no terrorist footprint in Afghanistan and instead present a detailed account of networks that benefit from permissive conditions. She stressed that Pakistan’s earlier warnings were measured and are now independently corroborated.
Renewed diplomatic focus
From Washington’s perspective she observed Pakistan is increasingly viewed as a frontline counterterror partner. She advocated sustained engagement through the United Nations and the OIC alongside enhanced border management and proportionate security responses. Shah emphasised that collective responsibility and steady diplomacy offer the most viable path toward regional stability.
